Growing Radish in the Greenhouse

Radish is an annual plant belonging to the cabbage family. A small root crop, which can be grown both outdoors and in a greenhouse, contains a real storehouse of useful substances: calcium, potassium, iron and magnesium salts, as well as organic acids, vitamins B1, B2, C, PP.Radish is an excellent natural medicine that helps to regulate metabolism. Many gardeners grow this useful root all year round.

Radish grades for greenhouse

All radish varieties can be divided into two groups: for open ground and for greenhouse cultivation. However, some of them successfully coexist in both places.

  • "W├╝rzburg 59" is a medium-ripe grade of radishes resistant to sagging. It feels great when growing in a greenhouse, and in the open ground.
  • "Warta" - the brand is absolutely resistant to rifling. Being early-maturing, the Warta is beautifully grown in greenhouse conditions.
  • "Deca" is one of the most suitable varieties for the greenhouse, as at a temperature too high for other crops this grade is ready to
show unprecedented yield rates: 3.8 kg per square meter of the land. It is distinguished by medium-sized root crops of bright crimson color, it can grow beautifully and with a lack of light.
  • "Early red" - this is early-maturing, excellent for a greenhouse. It differs in dark red dense fruits. The taste of radish red is very tasty, juicy, incredibly tender.
  • "Heat" - absolutely contradictory to its name variety. Radish of this species does not like heat or heat, but it gives excellent yields in autumn and spring. The taste of radish is slightly sharp, it has a very juicy white flesh.
  • "Sachs" - root crops of this variety mature approximately equally. It refers to medium-term varieties( no more than 30 days from sowing to harvesting).
  • "Greenhouse" - this variety of radish is distinguished by its small round-shaped roots and soft pink color. Having an amazing taste, the greenhouse radish ripens very quickly. Despite its name, it can be grown both outdoors and in a greenhouse. One of the varieties of this variety is the "greenhouse mushroom".It is grown exclusively in a closed ground.
  • "Corundum" - resistant to the formation of flabby root crops, is early-maturing. When grown in a film greenhouse gives an excellent harvest. Fruits have a slightly sharp taste.
  • How to sow seeds in a greenhouse

Experienced growers know that radish can be grown in a heated greenhouse all year round. However, in this case it is necessary to observe the cyclicity. If you want to crackle with vitamin radish in late autumn or winter, then seeding should be done in September. If you want to eat juicy radish during the spring vitamin deficiency, the seeds should be planted from the beginning of February until the end of April. All-year-round radish planting is possible only in heated heifers. If there is no heating in the greenhouse, then the seeds are planted only in soft earth( not frozen at all), heated by 5-7 cm. This usually occurs at the end of March or beginning of April.

The speed with which the radish germinates directly depends on its grade, and also on the season. In winter, this period averages 45 days , in March - 35 days, and in early May - 25 days.

Before seeding, it is necessary to prepare the soil: dig and align. Depleted after repeated cultivation of crops, the soil must be fed with compost.

Before planting seeds in the soil, they must be carefully selected. Preference should be given to large seeds with a fraction of at least 2.4 mm. In order to exclude the possibility of infection, the seed material must be treated with a solution of potassium permanganate. To calculate how much seed is needed, it is necessary to take into account the fact that at least 5 g of seed material will be needed per square meter.

When planting radish in greenhouse conditions, vegetable growers try to follow a certain scheme, which allows them to avoid thinning the culture in the future. Between the rows should be left 6 cm, between the seeds - 2 cm .Planting seeds should be carried out to a depth of 1 cm

Separately, I would like to highlight the issue of the temperature regime, because very often radish is grown in the cold season.

The culture is cold-resistant, so even light frosts to -3. .. -4 degrees are not frightening to it. The optimum temperature for culture is +16. . + 18 degrees.

Some vegetable growers resort to a little trick when observing the excessive stretching of the radish sprouts. They reduce the temperature in the greenhouse to a mark of +6. . + 8 degrees and maintain this mode for four days.

    Radish care in a greenhouse

Radish likes to bask in the sun, however its light day should not exceed 12 hours. Otherwise, flower stems threatening the quality of the crop may appear. If the radish grows in the summer, then it is better to cover the greenhouse in the evening hours with an opaque black film.

Despite the fact that many vegetable growers plant seeds at a sufficient distance from each other, there is some "crowding" in the greenhouse. The dense arrangement of root crops can affect the grinding of the fruit, which is why the shoots need to be thinned out.

Radish in the greenhouse is susceptible to pest attack. To protect the crop from insect attack, it is necessary to treat plantings with a mixture of tobacco dust and wood ash .

Radish likes regular watering, which must be done at least once every 2-3 days. Insufficient moistening of the soil leads to the fact that the fruits begin to get rough. However, if you start to water abundantly over-dried radish, then it can crack.
After harvesting, radish should be packed on plastic bags. In each package - no more than 1 kilogram. Keep the harvested crop in a cool place.

Learn how to grow a radish is not so difficult. Enjoy this traditional vitamin vegetable all year round!
